In a Minnesota Medical Foundation funded study, Dr. Ranjit John transplanted the first porcine hearts stored in a prototype heart preservation device at the University of Minnesota, Experimental Surgical Services. The study successfully demonstrated the feasiblity of system as it was designed for extended heart preservation.
